Comfortable footwear, weather-appropriate clothing, a light backpack, enough water, and a small snack are recommended for this hike.
Additionally, a hiking map or GPS, a first aid kit, sun protection, and hiking poles, if needed, are also advisable.
This easy and scenic hut hike starts at car park P15 near the music pavilion in Weidach (Leutasch). Ample parking spaces and toilet facilities are available on site, and the “Weidach Zentrum” bus stop is located nearby.
From the music pavilion, the route initially follows the road towards Oberweidach. Right from the start, beautiful views of the striking Hohe Munde unfold. After a short distance, the trail branches off to the left, crosses a small bridge, and at the junction near Hotel Kristall continues to the right towards Seewald. Following the road, the path climbs steadily uphill to a small turning point where the asphalt ends and a forest road begins.
From here, the route ascends at a consistent gradient through the forest up to the Katzenkopfhütte. Along the way, the trail offers a peaceful natural setting before reaching the hut on the Katzenkopf. Once at the top, an impressive panorama over the Leutasch Valley opens up, with stunning views of the Wetterstein mountains and the Hohe Munde. The spacious sun terrace and the cosy indoor area of the Katzenkopfhütte invite you to take a relaxing break.
The return follows the same route back to the starting point in Weidach.
The tour can be adapted individually:
• About halfway along the forest road, there is the option to switch to trail no. 42. This leads to a scenic viewpoint with a bench and stamping station, offering additional views over the Leutasch Valley. The corresponding stamp pass is available at the region’s information offices.
• If you prefer to shorten the ascent or descent, you can alternatively start at the Katzenkopf lift (P14) and use the chairlift.
• From the top station, the summer toboggan run offers a fun and varied option for the descent.
• The area around Katzenkopf also features a bike park, playground and a disc golf course, providing additional leisure options for mountain bikers and families.
Take the bus from Seefeld, Mittenwald, or Telfs to the "Leutasch Weidach Zentrum" stop.
