Beschreibung

From the railway station in Matrei, head north through the village and follow the road upwards at the "Waldrast" turn-off at the end of the village. After a few metres on the road, the toll road begins at the "Waldrast" car park in Mützens. A forest road winds pleasantly away from the toll road up through the spruce forests to the highest monastery in the Eastern Alps. The five-kilometre trail leads along the Stations of the Cross in about 1.5 hours to Maria Waldrast. A little before Waldrast is also the Matreier Ochsenalm.
You can also take the Quellenweg via Oberfeldes and the Brandachwald to the Ochsenalm and the monastery.
From the monastery, you can also take the Creation Trail into the Lange Tal, the short Rosenkranzweg to the Auffindungskapelle chapel or climb the Serles.
