Hut Breitenkopfhütte

The Breitenkopfhütte is a self-catering hut at 2,020 metres above sea level on the northern side of the Mieming Mountains.

Measuring just four metres by four metres, the Breitenkopfhütte on the northern side of the Mieming Mountains is about as small as huts get. On the ground floor there is a sleeping area for up to six people with matresses (and blankets) on the floor. Apart from that, it really is just the basics. There is a small kitchen with a wood-burning stove (firewood is available at the start of the trail leading to the hut) plus crockery and cutlery. However, there is no electricity and the nearest source of running water is a spring around 150 metres from the hut. The hut also has no artificial lighting. Visitors will need to get the key to the lock from their nearest division of the German Alpine Club. During the winter months the area is at ris of avalanches. A fun fact is that before the Coburg Division of the German Alpine Club took over the running of the hut in 1936, there used to be another hut here used by miners working in the shafts which were blasted into the mountain here from 1913.
