Hiking in Zillertal Valley’s First Region

The First Region in the Zillertal Valley located between the idyllic Tux Alps and the Kitzbühel Alps is well worth a visit, not least for a chance to sample its tangy mountain cheese. Walkers and hikers can look forward to fantastic trails with a spectacular backdrop.

Pull your hiking boots on and let's get started! This region around the villages of Kaltenbach and Fügen has lots of traditional mountain huts and craggy alpine peaks to explore. Families in particular love the area thanks to its many easy walking paths, for example the trail leading from Fügen up onto the Spieljoch mountain with its outdoor adventure play area. Once up on the mountain there is a Barefoot Trail all the way up to the summit. Children will also enjoy splashing around in the water park. Some of the best views in the area can be enjoyed from the top of the 2,095-metre-high Hamberg mountain overlooking the village of Stumm. On clear days you will even be able to see the Achensee, Tirol's largest lake. Further top tips for visitors to the region include the Harter Schleierwasserfall, at 91 metres in height one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Tirol. There is also a themed walking trail leading up to the waterfall.
