This easy and delightful day hike is perfectly suited for families. The 6-kilometre route from Landeck to Fliess takes about 2.5 hours to complete. Along the way you will find numerous inns and restaurants where you can gather new strength over hearty delicacies. Walk in the steps of the Romans: the route runs along the historic Roman road “Via Claudia Augusta” which was established in 15 BC as a connection between Italy and the foothills of the Alps. The well-maintained trails traverse the sunny slopes of Fliess at the Kaunergrat Nature Park, an area of awesome natural beauty and rich in wildlife and fauna. This biodiversity is the result of the low precipitation in the Upper Inn Valley.

Trail description
This day hike runs along the historic Roman road "Via Claudia Augusta" which was established in 15 BC to connect Italy with the foothills of the Alps. From the town centre of Landeck, climb up the hill crowned by the mighty Landeck Castle. Ascend from Landeck Castle on a paved road/forest road through the woods heading towards “Fließ”. Whenever there is a way-marked short cut available, take it (sometimes on rather steep singletrack trails). Thereafter, the route gently ascends high above Inn Valley. Later, it weaves out of the forest and through meadows and sections with broadleaf trees and bushes to the destination end. After the sections leading through the woods, you first continue above the hamlet of Hinterstrengen. Soon after, a trail branches off to the left next to a chapel. At this point, continue on the footpath/dirt road, which now gently descends. The path turns onto a paved road on which you further ascend. After a short distance, switch onto a footpath/dirt road again on the right hand side. Later, walk on the relatively level paved village road in the same direction until you reach the village centre of Fliess. Catch a bus back to Landeck; the ride lasts about 15 minutes.
Tip! This hike begins at the mighty Landeck Castle, towering above the small town of the same name. Visit the Castle Museum and marvel at the unique blend of culture, mysticism and spirituality.
