High-Altitude Winter Walks

High-altitude winter walks are the best way to enjoy the snowy landscape and crystal-clear mountain air during the cold months of the year. Tirol is home to many options for winter visitors who like to explore the region on foot.

The sound of snow crunching underfoot, the gentle wind blowing through the pine trees, maybe the gentle call of a blue tit – but, apart from that, nothing other than pure silence. Winter walks high in the mountains are the perfect way to escape the hustle and bustle of civilisation in the valley and the large ski resorts. Here, above it all, you are along with the world. Sounds which would normally echo up from the valley below are dampened by the thick layer of snow. And the views of the peaks and valleys all around are crystal clear despite – or maybe because of – the cold winter air. Some of the well-maintained walking routes high in the mountains can be accessed without lifts, while others require a cable car ride. Don't forget to take a pair on sunglasses and plenty of suncream on clear days – the sunshine can be very intense in the mountains.
