The parish of Fügen is one of the original parishes of the Zillertal valley. The majority of the current church building dates back to around 1330. The church itself likely had a flat ceiling and two stories in the 14th century, which were replaced by a Gothic vault in the 15th century. At the end of the 15th century, the construction of the church and the vicarage was completed.
In the village center stands the church, which was built between 1494 and 1497 and consecrated in 1497. Early Gothic frescoes on the organ loft indicate a much earlier structure, likely dating back to the 9th century. From the Late Gothic period are the enthroned Mother of God on the left side altar (around 1450), the Entombment of Christ (around 1500) on the right side altar, as well as the twelve apostles in the apse.
Under the porch of our church, above a Christ in the grave, there is a rare representation of the Mount of Olives scene in terracotta from around 1500. Two torch-bearing henchmen in the foreground point to the early mining activities in Fügen through their garb.
