The Wildsee between Reith and Seefeld has likely existed as long as the mountains themselves. In the year 1022, the small settlement “Sevelt” (Field by the Lake) was mentioned for the first time in documents. Even during the time of Emperor Maximilian I, the area around Wildsee was known for its lush flora and fauna. A fish species introduced there at that time later made the Wildsee popularly known as the “Lampretensee.” However, the economic use of the water body was limited to a few decades – today, the natural jewel is protected, and fishing is therefore prohibited.
A particularly beautiful view of the Wildsee can be enjoyed from the nearby Pfarrhügel. Between the picturesque Wildsee and the pedestrian zone in the village center, the small landmark reveals a breathtaking panorama of the surrounding mountains.
Ideal walking path for the whole family
The cozy circular walk takes you through Seefeld’s most beautiful spots and combines impressive nature experiences with cultural highlights. Discover the parish church of St. Oswald, the Apostle Circle at the Pfarrhügel, the iconic Seekirchl, the lively pedestrian zone, the idyllic Reither Moor, and the picturesque Wildsee.
Winter hiking
In winter, the Wildsee unfolds a very special atmosphere: snowy shore pathways, picturesque winter landscapes, and some of the region's most beautiful highlights. This relaxed hike is a must-do during the colder months!
Swimming & Kneipp therapy
During the hot summer months, two beach bathing facilities provide refreshing coolness. The lakeside restaurant Strandperle offers excellent cuisine and a variety of activities with pedal boats, rowboat, and SUP rentals, as well as its own playground and beach volleyball court. At the Waldbad Sonja things are comparatively more relaxed, making it a favorite spot for those seeking peace. A different kind of refreshment is also offered by the freely accessible, spacious Kneipp facility. Numerous benches around the lake invite you to relax.
Swimming with dogs
At the Wildsee in Seefeld, swimming with dogs is unrestrictedly permitted where there is a possibility of free lake access, with the exception of the area of the Waldbad Sonja. The Strandbad Strandperle has a designated area (right side of the dock) where dogs are allowed to lie down and, of course, can also go into the lake.
Please do not feed the ducks
Well-intentioned, but not good for the animals: Bread and other human food can make ducks sick and disrupt their natural feeding behavior. Moreover, leftover feed pollutes the water and the ecological balance.
The best support for ducks and other waterfowl is therefore: just observe – and do not feed.
