Bike tour in one of Zillertal’s most beautiful tributary valleys, with views of the impressive dam wall!
Gasthaus Breitlahner 1257 m at the Schlegeis toll station in Ginzling is the starting point for Route No. 4016. You can park your car there, although a fee is charged. From here, a few metres before the toll booth, a gravel trail leads off to the right into the forest. The trail winds relatively steeply upwards around hairpin bends between the trees. As you push down into those pedals, you will quickly gain metres in elevation. After riding straight ahead on the gravel road for some time, you will merge back onto the B169 main road. This asphalted road leads you deeper in to the Zamser Valley. A relatively high volume of traffic may be anticipated along this stretch in summer. Afterwards, a longer flat section follows, where you can already see the gigantic dam wall from a distance, before the route leads upwards over several hairpin bends and through a tunnel towards the dam wall. After another short tunnel you reach the top of the dam of the reservoir at an altitude of 1,800 metres above sea level, where breathtaking views of the Zillertal Alps await. Enjoy the magnificent panorama while savouring refreshments at the Dominikushütte 1805 m, or Rastl 1785 m.
