Description

Attention: The Wetterstein Hut remains closed until further notice.

The starting point for this Bike & Hike tour is the Stupfer parking lot (P2) in Gaistal. From there, instead of going downhill, follow the paved road back to the district of Klamm. At the info point, turn north and follow the municipal road until the forest road (gravel) is reached. From here, the trail steadily climbs at a moderate incline. The beauty of this route lies in the dense forest with its shade-providing trees and many beautiful rest spots. The forest road is well-maintained and winds its way uphill in several bends, with some longer, nearly flat sections.

Above the tree line, about 100 meters below the Wettersteinhütte (not operational) and the Wangalm (operational), the bikes are left behind, and the final section is completed on foot. From here, the path becomes steeper and more gravelly. After about 10 minutes of walking, you reach a junction: To the left is the Wettersteinhütte, and slightly above to the right is the Wangalm.

The Wangalm is perfect for a well-deserved break with breathtaking panoramic views. The hut faces south, so you can enjoy sunshine throughout the day when the weather is good. Watch out for grazing livestock: Please maintain a safe distance and pass through the grazing area quietly and swiftly. At the junction, turn right and ascend to the Wangalm.

From the Wangalm, the hiking trail continues through the Scharnitz Valley to the Scharnitzjoch and further to the unoperational Erinnerungshütte. Once there, it’s a great spot for another well-deserved rest and to enjoy the unique view of Puittal. Afterward, follow the well-marked trails to the Gehrenspitze. Once at the summit, a stunning panoramic view of the Hohe Munde and Leutasch Valley awaits.
