E5 Kaunergrat alternative route: Kaunergrathütte – Braunschweiger Hütte

Description

Follow the path downhill to the second crossing. There are two alternative routes from here to the catered mountain hut Braunschweiger Hütte.
1^st route: follow the path further downhill until you reach the hamlet of Plangeroß. Once there, follow the valley trail [Talwanderweg] to Mittelberg.
2^nd  route: Hikers with alpine experience can follow a high route, the so called Cottbuser Höhenweg, which is partially equipped with fixed ropes until you reach the top station of Rifflseebahn gondola. Continue hiking down to the catered mountain hut Taschach Alm and then descend to Mittelberg.
Both variants of the hike join up again in Mittelberg. Once there, continue the last 1,000 metres in altitude up to the catered mountain hut Braunschweiger Hütte.
