Description

Beautiful circular hike above Innsbruck. The tour is not technically very difficult, but it does require good physical fitness. The ascent from the Brandjochboden to the summit is particularly steep. On this tour you explore the slopes of the Nordkette and enjoy impressive views of the rugged Karwendel mountains.

The tour begins at the top station of the Hungerburg funicular. From there, follow the path towards the Umbrüggler Alm. From the Umbrüggler Alm, the trail continues upward to the Höttinger Alm. After leaving the Höttinger Alm (1,487 m) behind, the route leads westward to the Achselboden. From the Achselbodenhütte (1,645 m), the trail climbs briefly through the forest and then across dwarf pine fields before reaching the Brandjochboden (1,967 m). From the wooden sign pointing to the Brandjochkreuz, follow the red‑white trail markings leading directly to the summit at 2,268 m.

The descent from the summit back to the Brandjochboden follows the same route as the ascent. From the Brandjochboden, the trail then leads downhill towards the Aspachhütte and continues to the Alpengasthof Rauschbrunnen. From there, you continue to the Buzihütte and finally descend to Sadrach.

The route ends in the Innsbruck district of Sadrach. From here, you can continue your journey by public transport if you wish.

Note: The Achselbodenhütte, Aspachhütte and Buzihütte are not serviced and therefore do not offer food or drink.
