Description

The starting point is the square in front of the church in Walchsee, with its Neo-Romanesque high altar and beautiful Neo-Baroque ceiling paintings. The church’s attic is home to Tyrol’s largest bat colony. The route takes you along Kirchgasse and through the village square, crossing the main street, past the Fischerwirt inn, then right to the Mariahilf Chapel and on to Kalvarienberg. At the top, near the three crosses, you’ll be rewarded with a magnificent view of Lake Walchsee. The trail continues steeply uphill through the forest toward Kugelwand—the local mountain. Turn right there and hike eastward on a forest trail, descending to the Hotel Panorama. There, you can enjoy the beautiful view. Here, you have the option to turn left and visit the Josefstal chapels. Afterward, head down into the valley toward the main road. Once you’ve crossed it, a short hike will take you to the Nothegg Farm, which features a remarkable old wooden fence. After passing the farm, turn right toward Walchsee and stroll along the lakeside promenade back to the town center.
