Description
From the beautifully situated village church at the back of the Navistal, you first follow a trail alternating between meadows and forests up to the Vöstenalm at 1800m. Passing peacefully grazing cattle, you reach a wide basin from here over a steep step, at the far end of which the Schafseitenspitze already laughs down. First, however, the trail curves out of the valley to the Schafalm high point, an ideal place for a short break. The last section of the ascent finally leads over the ridge and, in keeping with the name of the peak, up the sides grazed by sheep to the summit. A great view over the Wipptal valley and the Tux Alps reward the efforts of the ascent. The descent back to the valley is similar to the ascent over beautiful terrain - flower meadows, larch forests and alpine pastures. It is also possible and worthwhile to stop at the Urbes Alm, one of several alpine huts that you pass along the way.
ROUTE DESCRIPTION
From the starting point, trail no. 326 first leads across a meadow and past a chapel to a forest road. Here a sign points to the Vöstenalm - this is reached via a fairly steep climb to a larger mowing area and from there a forest path. From the alpine pasture building, the trail continues along a wide path up to a wide basin. The path makes a sharp bend here and leads quite flatly in a westerly direction out to the Schafalm and from there over a ridge briefly up to the ridge. In the opposite, easterly direction, you reach the goal of the tour, the Schafseitenspitze. The descent is then quite straight and initially somewhat steep along the trail with the No. 24. Here, too, you pass several alpine pastures, including the Stippler and Urbesalm. The last part of the tour, a forest path, leads directly to the village centre of Navis - from here it is only a few metres up to the church and thus also to the car park.
TIP OF THE AUTHOR
The forests around the ascent trail are rich in various mushrooms in August - if you feel like it, you can certainly find one or two delicacies here for your personal use.
