Description

The second stage of the Classic Karwendel Multi-day Hike leads from the Karwendelhaus to the Falkenhütte and showcases the Karwendel Nature Park from a particularly characteristic perspective. This route is defined by the idyllic Laliderertal Valley, the impressive Laliderer Wände rock faces and the Kleiner Ahornboden with its distinctive maple trees.

From the Karwendelhaus, the hike starts on a wide trail heading east up to the Hochalmsattel at 1,803 metres. The route then initially descends before a hiking trail branches off to the left into the Filztal Valley. Along the way, the vegetation becomes increasingly lush, with shrubs and trees lining the trail.

At the valley floor, the route reaches the Kleiner Ahornboden at 1,399 metres. Here you will find the Hermann von Barth memorial, which commemorates the famous mountaineer. With its old maple trees, the Kleiner Ahornboden is one of the scenic highlights of this stage.

Following the signs to the Falkenhütte, the route climbs again and leads through beautiful mixed mountain forest. Where the hiking trail meets a forest road, continue straight ahead to the Ladizalm, which is not managed.

From the Ladizalm, a wide hiking trail continues uphill to the Falkenhütte at 1,848 metres. The hut is located above the Spielissjoch at 1,773 metres, at the foot of the Laliderer Wände, and is the main overnight stop on this stage. It is the ideal place to round off the hiking day with regional specialities.

For those who would like to extend the stage, there are two options:

1. Variant via Almdorf Eng, shortening Stage 3

  • Distance: 6 km
  • Ascent: 110 m
  • Descent: 725 m
  • Walking time: approx. 2:30 h
This variant leads from the Falkenhütte via the Hohljoch, 1,794 m, and the Großer Ahornboden down to Almdorf Eng at 1,227 metres. Refreshment and overnight accommodation options are available there. This option shortens the following Stage 3.

2. Variant to the Lamsenjochhütte, extending the overall hike by 1 day
  • Distance: 12.4 km
  • Ascent: 870 m
  • Descent: 770 m
  • Walking time: approx. 6:00 h
This variant significantly extends Stage 2. It is therefore expressly recommended as an additional stage, allowing the Karwendel crossing to be planned as a 4-day multi-day hike. Shortly before the Alpengasthof Eng, turn right onto a narrow trail that leads to forest road 456. Follow this road eastwards to the Binsalm-Niederleger. Via the Binsalm-Hochleger, the surroundings become increasingly quiet, and the route climbs steadily through the Karwendel landscape to the western Lamsenjoch at 1,940 metres. From there, the trail continues almost level to the eastern Lamsenjoch and, within a few minutes, to the Lamsenjochhütte at 1,953 metres. The hut is located below the Lamsenspitze, 2,508 m, and offers overnight accommodation.

Summit options:
Possible summit ascent on Stage 2: Laliderer Falk, 2,428 m.
Alternatively, when extending the hike to the Lamsenjochhütte: Lamsenspitze, 2,508 m.
All summit variants are suitable only for experienced mountaineers; the itinerary of the multi-day hike should be carefully adjusted and extended if required.
