Description

The third and final stage of the Classic Karwendel Multi-day Hike leads from the Falkenhütte via the Großer Ahornboden and Almdorf Eng through the Falzthurntal Valley to Pertisau at Lake Achensee. On this final stage, the Karwendel Nature Park once again reveals its full diversity – with old maple trees, wide alpine pasture landscapes and numerous places to stop for refreshments.

Important note on the choice of stage from Stage 2:
Depending on the overnight stay chosen in Stage 2, there are different options for the start of Stage 3.

Standard route via Falkenhütte and Eng:

From the Falkenhütte, initially follow the route of the Tiroler Adlerweg and the Via Alpina. The route leads up to the Hohljoch at 1,794 metres and then descends along a well-laid hiking trail to the Großer Ahornboden.

There, wide meadows, alpine pastures and old maple trees shape the landscape. The Großer Ahornboden is a well-known excursion destination and can therefore be very busy.

From the Großer Ahornboden, the route continues to Almdorf Eng at 1,227 metres. With the Engalm and the Alpengasthof Eng, there are good places to stop for refreshments here.

From Almdorf Eng, the trail leads via the Niederleger up to the Binsalm at 1,502 metres. This also offers the opportunity to stop for regional specialities.

The route then continues over the Binssattel towards the Gramaialm. Passing the Hochleger at 1,750 metres, you reach the Gramaialm, another important refreshment stop.

From there, the trail continues to the Kasalm before the route enters the Falzthurntal Valley.

In the Falzthurntal Valley, you hike out of the valley towards Pertisau. The Falzthurnbach stream accompanies the route through this impressive Karwendel landscape.

Towards the end of the stage, you pass the Alpengasthaus Falzturn, the last place to stop for refreshments in the Karwendel valleys. The route then continues out to Pertisau at Lake Achensee, the end point of the Classic Karwendel Multi-day Hike.

Overnight stay in Almdorf Eng:
Stage 3 is significantly shorter, as the start is directly in Almdorf Eng at 1,227 metres. From there, the route follows the same trail as the standard route to Pertisau at Lake Achensee.

  • Distance: 17 km
  • Ascent: 670 m
  • Descent: 960 m
  • Walking time: approx. 6:00 h

Overnight stay at the Lamsenjochhütte:
This variant should be planned as an additional stage, as otherwise it would significantly extend Stage 2 and shorten Stage 3 accordingly. An overnight stay at the Lamsenjochhütte is therefore recommended as a separate additional tour day.

If the Lamsenjochhütte is chosen as an additional stage, the following day offers the option of hiking via trail E4 through the Lunstgraben to the Gramaialm and then continuing through the Falzthurntal Valley to Pertisau at Lake Achensee.
  • Distance: 12.7 km
  • Ascent: 0 m
  • Descent: 1,010 m
  • Walking time: approx. 4:00 h
