This is a cleared winter hiking trail. However, icy or slippery spots may still occur.
This cosy winter loop hike combines the W9 and W10 winter walking trails and leads through the snow-covered Leutasch Valley. It blends calm water scenery, quiet forest sections and gentle enjoyment at the foot of the Wetterstein Mountains.
The starting point is the music pavilion in Weidach, easily reached by car (car park P15) or by bus to the Weidach Zentrum stop. A short detour to the natural biotope behind the pavilion is worthwhile before following the signs towards “Weidachsee” at the nearby road junction. From this point, the route follows the W9 winter walking trail. Pass the small Katzner Chapel and turn left again opposite the entrance of Hotel Quellenhof. The route then leads directly to the peaceful winter shore of the Lake Weidachsee.
In winter, the Lake Weidachsee unfolds a particularly tranquil atmosphere. Depending on conditions, ice fishing is possible – a rare chance to experience the stillness of the season in a very special way.
Continue past the lake café and fishery – a cosy spot for a break even in the colder months – and follow the lakeside promenade. At the southern shore, the trail leads into the snowy forest and forms a small loop.
At the junction, keep left towards Kirchplatzl. From here, the path reaches the Leutascher Ache River, which flows through the entire 16-kilometre valley and remains an atmospheric companion even in deep winter. From this point onward, you follow the W10 winter walking trail along the river downstream.
You pass the Alpenbad Leutasch and eventually reach the crossroads in the Weidach district, with the Norz sports shop on the corner. Turn right here and stroll comfortably along the pavement back to the starting point at the music pavilion.
