Description

Simple emergency shelter on the Ellmauer Halt mountain
German Alpine Club, Turner-Alpenkränzchen Division

Perched just a few metres from the summit of the Ellmauer Halt, the highest peak in the Wilder Kaiser Mountains, the Babenstuberhütte is an emergency shelter providing a place to stay the night for walkers and hikers who get into difficulty. It is a simple wooden hut offering protection from the elements. It dates all the way back to 1891 but has been renovated and modernised several times. It was originally located on the peak itself, but it was damaged many times by lightning and therefore moved a few metres down the mountain. The hut is owned and operated by the Turner-Alpenkränzchen Division of the German Alpine Club. Together with the Gruttenhütte and the Babenstuberhütte it offers some of the best views of the Ellmauer Halt.
