Mountain Biking in the Ötztal Valley

The Ötztal Valley is one of the best places in Tirol for mountain biking. Some of the best riding can be found in the Bike Republic in Sölden with its natural trails, downhill trails and enduro routes. Families with children will find easier terrain on the lower slopes of the Ötztal and Stubai Alps.

Experienced riders in search of a challenge will find precisely that in the Ötztal Valley. With its twisting singletrack trails set against a backdrop of snow-capped peaks, the Bike Republic in Sölden turns the 3,056-metre-high Gaislachkogel mountain into one huge play area. Check out the Teäre Line (which takes its name from a local dialect word for "stubborn" or "pig-headed", a quality often attributed to the people native to the Ötztal Valley!) or take on the 32-kilometre-long loop starting in Oetz and leading through the Stubai Alps. With 1,400 vertical metres of ascent from start to finish riders need strong legs and lungs. Families with children should head to the village of Längenfeld, the starting point for a number of easy but beautiful rides like the one through the Sulztal Valley to the Amberger Hütte. The Ötztal Trail along the valley floor is a top tip for riders keen to learn more about the region's flora and fauna. Finally, the Ötztal Valley is home to two stages of the Bike Trail Tirol, a long-distance mountain bike adventure taking riders across Tirol from east to west.
