Mountain Biking in the Zillertal Valley

Flanked by numerous 3,000-metre mountains, the Zillertal Valley is a haven for mountain bikers. Trails range from easy to extreme, with plenty of cable cars available for those who want to access the mountains without breaking a sweat.

The mountain bike trails between Fügen and Hintertux include everything from challenging singletrack trails to easy cruising along the valley floor. The ride up onto the Kellerjoch mountain near Fügen demands strong legs and good overall fitness. Further south there are good downhill trails such as the Wiesenalm Trail near Zell am Ziller and the Isskogel Trails near Gerlos. The Isskogelbahn is just one of several lifts and cable cars in the region transporting riders and their bikes into the mountains. Much of the riding in the south of the region is good for families, for example in the quiet side valleys of Stillupgrund and Zillergrund, while the Tux Main Ridge offers more challening terrain with fine views of the mighty Olperer mountain. Some of the longer rides in the region are aimed at fit bikers and e-bike riders, with a number of bike & hike routes also on offer. Last but not least, dotted throughout the region are plenty of traditional mountain huts serving hearty local food.

Tip! The Zillertal Activcard gives holders one free ride per day up onto the mountain and back down again as well as free use of most public transport in the valley. The Zillertalbahn railway line also offers free bike transport.
