Come out and see some true feats of bravery as competitors try their luck at sliding and skimming across an icy pond in See in late March – in an 'inherently unlikely' attempt to cross without falling in.
Whether you’re competing or spectating, fun is there for the taking: The Watersurf Contest is the annual end-of-season pond-skimming contest. This event, held on Easter Saturday this year at Medrigalm Ski Resort in See, invites competitors to race down the mountain and then attempt to “water ski” across a small and very cold body of water on skis or similar gear and attempt to “skim” across the pond, hopefully (but not likely) without sinking. When it comes to equipment, you can apply the rule: if it slides on snow, you are good to go! This includes skis, snowboards, sleds, surfboards, and, of course, self-made “Crazy Vehicles” like palm tree islands, flying saucers or pirate ships. Euro 2,000 prize money is awarded for more than just making it across. Creativity will win you extra points with both the judges and the crowd. Costumes and silly accessories are highly encouraged—and could earn an extra prize. Optimism is required. A sense of self-preservation is optional.
DJ sound accompanies the event from 3:00pm onwards. Registration takes place on the spot for a fee of Euro 5.00. The annual pond-skimming event attracts hundreds of skiers and non-skiers out for the laughs at the biggest splats. If you haven’t experienced this event, now is the time!
