Around 3,000 athletes from around the world will gather in Innsbruck in January 2020 to compete in 12 disciplines in the Winter World Masters Games, the self-styled “World’s Greatest Winter Sports Festival”.
The World Masters Games is an international multi-sport event which is open to sports people of all abilities, starting at the over-30 category (the minimum age criterion depends on the sport). Participants compete for themselves – there are no country delegations. Beyond the age requirement and membership in that sport’s governing body, there are no competition qualification requirements.
The Winter World Masters Games were first held in 2010 in Bled, Sloveina and were repeated in Quebec City, Canada in 2015. The third staging in Austria will run from January 10 to 19, 2020. Around 3,000 athletes will compete in 12 disciplines at the Winter World Masters Games in Innsbruck. Downhill and cross-country skiing, biathlon, ski mountaineering and curling will all be on the program.
