Vicinity: Schloss Herrenchiemsee
King Ludwig's most magnificent palace was to have been Herrenchiemsee. When he died, it was far from finished. But even unfinished, it still delights hundreds of thousands of guests every year who take one of the daily guided tours. The magnificent Paradeschlafzimmer (Parade Bedroom) and the Speisezimmer (Dining Room) with the famous "Tischlein deck dich" (The Little Table Covering You) are among the other highlights of every guided tour of the castle.
Herrenchiemsee is probably the only island in the world with two castles. In addition to the "New Castle" of King Ludwig II, there is also the Augustinian Canons' Monastery, also called the "Old Castle".
