Family-friendly circular hike over the Kluppen valley and the Kluppenalm to the Durrachjöchl, a beautiful panoramic mountain at the end of the Schmirn valley
From the hamlet of Obern, the path first leads through the narrow, wild Kluppen valley to the beautifully situated Kluppenalm with its rustic huts. The trail continues in an arc first along the valley floor, later on over the mountain flank steeply uphill until you reach the ridge and thus the highest point of the tour. For the effort of the ascent you will be rewarded for the first time with a great view over the Schmirntal, and you can also marvel at the Olperer and Fussstein. The path now leads gently downhill along the ridge over flowering meadows towards the cross of the Durrachjöchl. After an extended rest, the path then leads past avalanche barriers in serpentines back down into the valley.
DIRECTIONS
From the car park, first follow the forest path northwards into the Kluppental. After about 2km the valley opens up and you reach the basin of the Kluppenalm, which you can also head for directly after crossing the small stream. Immediately before the first alpine huts, there is a signpost pointing to the right, across the alpine village and further along the valley floor. After a short stretch across the alpine pasture floor, marked by clearly visible markings, you have to cross the little brook again, whereupon you enter a light larch forest. Following the path in the forest, a little later you reach a sharp turn to the right, from now on you go up along the mountain flank until you reach the ridge after about 250 hm and thus the highest point of the tour. Further on, following the ridge slightly downwards in southwestern direction towards the Durrachjöchl, which you reach after a few minutes. From the summit you have a fantastic panoramic view of the Schmirntal and its mountains. The descent is then quite steep in a southerly direction, first along the avalanche barrier, later in a large arc over the Napfental valley above Kasern back to the starting point.
TIP OF THE AUTHOR
The area you walk through is a true berry paradise. Again and again blackberry and cranberry bushes invite you to nibble.
But if you prefer "more solid" food, you should visit the rustic mountain inn Kasern, well known for its delicious cakes, after the tour.
