We give you a few meters of altitude on this tour. But not all of them, because even blue mountain lakes and wide panoramic views are only really beautiful when they have been earned.
Challenging mountain tour with ascent aid to the Kreuzjochspitze, an impressive peak in Paznaun. The tour leads past the Niederelbehütte hut surrounded by two mountain lakes and along a rocky and stony path to the Schwarzsee lake. The alpine trail requires surefootedness and a head for heights, especially on the rocky section.
The cable car takes you to Dias mountain station. Heading along route no. 8 you get to Kieler high altitude path no. 512 via Stertabach, which takes you to Niederelbehütte (2.300 m) with the Ruggler- and Fatlarspitze always in sight. Niederelbehütte is situated on a mountain ridge surrounded by two mountain lakes in Hinteren Seßladtal. Beneath the alpine lodge the path (no. 8) takes you from Seßsee, at the start really flat becoming very steep eventually to Schwarzsee. Proceeding past Schwarzsee, head through rocky terrain until you get to the 2.919 m high Kreuzjochspitze via avery steep ridge. Here a breathtaking panorama view opens up, which is most definitely worth the effort of making the ascent.
Return section: The same descent to Niederelbehütte. Then along route no. 4 through the flowercovered Fatlartal to Ulmich and on the municipal roadback to Kappl.
