The Landeck – Urgen – Fliess – Landeck Trail combines some of the finest aspects of trail running in the Ferienregion TirolWest. Runnable climbs, panoramic traverses, charming villages, and flowing descents make it an excellent route for both ambitious trail runners and those looking to enjoy the mountains at a more relaxed pace. With approximately 13–15 kilometres and up to 900 metres of elevation gain, it offers a rewarding challenge without requiring a full-day commitment.
Your gear should therefore be designed with safety, sudden weather changes, and prolonged exertion in mind. Trail running vest, water, snacks (gels, bars, dried fruit, salt tablets in hot weather, etc.), lightweight rain jacket (waterproof, windproof, packable), cap or headband, thin gloves (spring/fall), GPS watch (with GPX track), cell phone (fully charged) with offline map, mini first-aid kit, emergency blanket, headlamp, trail running poles, thin insulated jacket, arm warmers.
The route begins in Landeck and initially follows quiet paths towards Urgen. Within a short time, the urban surroundings fade away, and you find yourself immersed in nature. The opening kilometres are ideal for warming up before the main climb begins.
The trail gradually gains elevation on a mix of forest and meadow paths. Most of the terrain is highly runnable, offering the perfect balance between physical challenge and pure trail-running enjoyment. With every metre climbed, new views open up across the Inn Valley and the surrounding mountains of the Ferienregion TirolWest.
The section above Urgen is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the route. Narrow woodland trails alternate with open stretches, providing frequent panoramic views across the valley. The landscape showcases classic Tyrolean countryside, with alpine meadows, forests, and traditional mountain farms creating a unique atmosphere.
As the route continues towards Fliess, the terrain becomes increasingly varied. Short rolling climbs add variety, while runnable traverses invite runners to pick up the pace. Expansive views across the Tyrolean Oberland make this section particularly enjoyable.
Before descending, the trail passes the hillsides above Fliess, offering beautiful views down to the villages and the Inn Valley below. From here, the long descent back towards Landeck begins.
The final kilometres deliver exactly what trail runners love: fast-flowing trails, varied terrain, and continuous views into the valley. Back in Landeck, the route concludes as a rewarding combination of natural beauty, athletic challenge, and scenic mountain running.
