Description

On trail #82 starting at the Gasthof Lamm in St. Jodok, walk through the Kirchsteig settlement to the railway subway, then with little incline through meadows and forest. After about 20 minutes on foot, turn right onto trail #84 towards Padaun. The trail runs through the forest and is a little steeper at first. Eventually you reach the Padaun plateau and hike for another 10 minutes in open terrain along the edge of the meadows to the Steckholzer mountain inn, which lies at an altitude of 1,570m. The inn is known for its dumpling specialities and homemade cakes and invites you to take a break (closed on Tuesdays). As a descent option from Padaun, we recommend the Padaun trail, which leads somewhat eastwards from the ascent in a few steep hairpin bends directly down into the Valsertal valley. From there, take hiking trail #85 and later #82 through meadows and forest along the Valser Bach stream back to St. Jodok.
