The Lechweg River Trail follows the Lech River through the stunning Tyrolean Lech Valley, leading from Elbigenalp via Häselgehr and Elmen to Stanzach.
From the centre of Elbigenalp, the trail leads back to the Lech River. The Lechweg River Trail initially follows the riverbank. Just before Köglen, you will reach a small biotope. In Köglen, cross the Lechtal main road and continue along forest tracks and woodland paths with wonderful panoramic views. Near Grießau, cross the road again and follow a farm track through a small riparian forest before continuing along the Lech to the Häselgehr outdoor swimming pool. A small man-made stream with sulphurous water runs through the swimming area. From Häselgehr, the Lechweg River Trail continues to the hamlet of Luxnach, home to the Doser Waterfall. Its water emerges from a rocky grotto and once powered a mill. According to local tradition, the waterfall dries up on St Martin’s Day (11 November) and starts flowing again on St George’s Day (23 April). Legend has it that a dragon opens and closes the stream at the right time. The trail first follows the Purweg and then continues along the Panoramaweg towards Elmen. There is an opportunity to stop for refreshments in Klimm. To reach the centre of Elmen, you have to leave the Lechweg River Trail.
From the centre of Elmen, return to the district of Klimm and from there climb back up to the Lechweg River Trail. Shortly before Vorderhornbach, you will encounter a mixed beech forest for the first time. Before descending to the small hamlet of Martinau, a short detour to the old ski lift is worthwhile. From here, you can enjoy wonderful panoramic views of Vorderhornbach and the Lech Valley. From Martinau, follow the Krackweg to Vorderhornbach. The Badino natural swimming pool is an inviting place to stop and relax. Here, you can enjoy a refreshing swim in chlorine-free water. Continue through Vorderhornbach and follow a farm track to the Lech bridge. Cross the river and follow the riverbank to Stanzach. Shortly before the Lech bridge, while still in Vorderhornbach, a short detour on the left leads uphill from the road to Stanzach to Baichlstein. After around 45 minutes of walking, you will reach a viewpoint offering magnificent panoramic views of Vorderhornbach and, downstream, the Lechzopf. This distinctive landscape feature was formed by old groynes that were once built to reinforce the riverbank.
Please note that Stanzach is the last place where you can buy groceries. The next supermarket is located in Weißenbach.
