Wow - it's pretty wild here on the Niederkaiser. The foothills of the Wilder Kaiser have a lot to offer: secured alpine paths, a chapel built into the rock face, a hermitage, a waterfall worth seeing and dizzying views of St. Johann in Tirol.
Variable summit tour on the Niederkaiser, the eastern foothills of the Wilder Kaiser. Not to be underestimated, especially if the steep Maiklsteig, spiced with iron steps and ladders, is included as an option in the tour. Technically easier, but also steep, is the suggested route via the Einsiedelei and Gmailkapelle. On the ridge, a scenic hike over the Ursula cross and the Gscheuerkopf. Here, too, the route is partly rocky and secured with ropes. On the way towards Schleierwasserfall, the terrain becomes gentler and the path to the waterfall is once again secured. Easy way back to the Rummlerhof, which is the only refreshment stop along the way.
This hike starts in St. Johann in Tirol and takes you to the hamlet of Hinterkaiser. There you follow the gently winding path uphill, always following the signs to the hermitage. The narrow road leads into a dirt track, beautifully carved wooden panels with scenes from Jesus' Way of the Cross lead to the Maria Blut hermitage. This place of power invites you to linger and you already have a great view of St. Johann in Tirol and the surrounding region. The route continues along a rocky path that winds steadily uphill. A breather at the Gmail Chapel is recommended - here you can immortalize yourself in the summit booklet in the chapel or simply enjoy the view. The next section of your hike is a tough one, climbing steeply up to the Niederkaiser ridge. Once there, the path goes uphill and downhill, always with a wonderful view of the Kitzbüheler Horn and into the valley to St. Johann in Tirol. At Ursulablick you can pause for a moment and enjoy the panorama. At the Gscheuerkopf (1279 m) you have to cross a short secured climbing passage. The route then continues to the Kaiser Niederalm and Granderalm. Another highlight is the Schleier waterfall - you get there past the Granderalm via a ladder (a head for heights and surefootedness required!). From there, the trail slowly descends into the valley. Past the waterfall, you hike downhill along trail 818. Along the "Moor & more" themed trails and via the Rummlerhof, you return to your starting point.
