Description

The circular walk starts at the station in Matrei. Via the underpass at the station you cross over to the eastern side of the station and then walk a short distance south on a road until you reach the main road to Navis. There, one crosses a bridge and immediately after that, one goes back in northern direction along the Sill. Now you follow the Wipptal cycle path No. 30 north along the Sill, cross the river on a wooden bridge, later the railway line at an underpass and stay on the cycle path. Passing the Matrei secondary school, you go up the road towards Pfons and immediately after an imposing manor house on the right-hand side of the road, you go straight ahead at the bend in the road. About 100 m further on the hiking trail (No. 9) starts over meadows in the direction of Pfons. On the hill above Pfons, the trail continues downhill to the main road, from where the suspension bridge is already clearly visible. You walk down along the road and over the bridge to Matrei Trautson Castle. From there you continue along the road towards Zieglstadl near Mühlbachl and Annaheim. When you reach the Sill, cross the bridge of the Landestraße to Pfons/Ellbögen and turn right into the alley at the "Altstadt Cafe" in front of the church. Here you follow again the Wipptal cycle path 30 along the railway line past the equipment factory and over a narrow path to the secondary school Matrei. From here you can either take the path back along the Sill you came from or go straight over the bridge to the main road and then follow the main road on the sidewalk south to the train station. The house facades of Matrei are historically very worth seeing and beautifully arranged. Several cafés and restaurants also invite you to stop for a bite to eat.
