Mountain Biking in the Kitzbühel Alps – Pillerseetal Valley

Fit families will find plenty of riding in the Pillerseetal Valley, both around the shimmering green Pillersee lake as well as in the Kitzbühel Alps and the Loferer Rocky Mountains with their lush meadows and craggy peaks.

Extending between Waidring and Hochfilzen, the Pillerseetal Valley region is home to more than 500 kilometres of mountain bike routes. Most of the riding is relatively easy with not too much climbing, though the (tarmac and gravel) trails tend to be relatively long – top conditions for families and e-bike riders. The region is characterised by lakes, rivers and gently rolling pastures. One of the most iconic mountains in the region is the Buchensteinwand between St. Jakob in Haus and Fieberbrunn with its 30-metre-high crucifix atop the summit. There is a 12km ride from the valley up to the top of the Buchensteinwand. Longer rides can be found in the form of the Pillerseetal Loop and the Steinberg Loop. Advanced and expert riders will enjoy the KAT Bike, a long-distance mountain bike trail in the region. One of the KAT Bike stages leads from Oberndorf in Tirol over the Kitzbühel Horn mountain, through the Leukental Valley and into the Pillerseetal Valley.
