Mountain hikes The Wiegalm

Brixen im Thale / Kitzbühel Alps
Difficulty ratings: medium
Route length: 10.5 km
Duration: 4:45 h

The hike to the Wiegalm takes you to a special place of power in the Kitzbühel Alps. Hikers have been welcomed here for nearly 100 years. Even today, we look forward to enjoying homemade delicacies and a beautiful view of the Kitzbühel Alps and the Wilder Kaiser from this rustic hut.

Tour character

The hike to the Wiegalm is a varied tour in the Kitzbühel Alps that stands out for its combination of nature, tranquility, and authentic alpine culture. It is suitable for sure-footed hikers with a good level of fitness and follows mostly well-maintained alpine and forest trails. The first highlight is the historic Way of the Cross along the Brixenbach stream. The landscape is characterized by wooded sections, open alpine meadows, and beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. There are two places to stop for refreshments along the route: the Brixenbachalm as the first rest stop and the Wiegalm as the hike’s destination. Both of these mountain huts serve regional cuisine and offer alpine hospitality. The Wiegalm itself is a real highlight: a traditional mountain hut with over 100 years of history, known as a popular stop for regional, homemade delicacies. Along the way, beautiful views of the Wilder Kaiser and the rolling mountains of the Kitzbühel Alps open up time and again.

Description

We drive by car to the Reiterbrücke bridge in the district of Winkl, Brixenbach. On the left, we walk uphill along the Brixenbach stream. This trail leads through marvellous alpine and mountain meadows and is also lined with several shrines, the Way of the Cross to the Brixenbachalm. About halfway through the hike to the Wiegalm, we reach a beautifully situated rest area above the Brixenbachalm with a marvellous view of the Wilder Kaiser and the Brixner Sonnberg. The mountain trail leads us further uphill until we reach the Wiegalm, where we have the opportunity to extend our hike by a few more rewarding steps in order to enjoy the wonderful mountain world around us even more. A tasty alpine snack strengthens us for the way back down into the valley. For the way back, we either take the same route or follow the forest path out of the valley along the Brixenbach stream to our starting point.
