How does the Kalkstein feel, surrounded by peaks such as the Wilder Kaiser, the Kitzbüheler Horn and the Loferer Steinberge? With the view, we certainly feel right at home on its summit.
A very long tour to one of the many culmination points of the Kalkstein. As an option to the Baumooskogel, the Wallerberg and Kirchberg can also be climbed on an extended limestone tour. There are no difficulties on the way to the Baumooskogel apart from the one or other steeper forest or meadow passage. There are no refreshment stops on the suggested route. Great views of the Wilder Kaiser, the Loferer Steinberge and the Kitzbühel Alps from the summit. Our tip: Cross the Kalkstein by (e-)mountain bike from St. Johann to St. Ullrich am Pillersee and collect the various peaks of the Kalkstein along the way.
The tour leads from the centre of St. Johann in Tirol to Oberhofen, then along a forest path to the hamlet of Scheffau. Shortly after Scheffau, the path turns into a forest road, which you follow to the Baumooskogel (1506 m). Via the Baumoosalm and the Leitneralm you reach the Haberberg hiking parking lot.
You return to the valley via Habach. From there you hike along the Großache river back to St. Johann in Tirol.
Alternative:
At the Haberberg turn-off, keep in the direction of Aiglsau and hike along the forest path along the Krebsbach stream to the chapel in Mitterndorf. From there, walk back to the centre.
