The hike over the Steinbergalm up to the Sonnjoch is one of the most beautiful hikes in the Alpbachtal and moreover a real insider tip!
Good footwear, water bottle, provisions, weatherproof clothing as well as change of clothes
You will experience breathtaking views almost the entire way on this route. Your adventure starts directly from the Hochberg parking lot: The path first leads you through the forest and then into the wide, picturesque alpine pasture area. Along an idyllic forest road you will reach your first destination, the Faulbaumgartenalm, after the first 400 meters of altitude gain. Here you can take a first break and enjoy the magnificent surroundings.
But this is only the beginning! The route continues past the unstaffed Filzalm, which impresses with its natural beauty. After a total of 600 meters of altitude gain and about 2.5 hours of walking, you will finally reach the rustic Steinbergalm from the 16th century. At the alpine host Hannes Klingler you can refresh yourself in a cozy atmosphere and enjoy the historic alpine idyll.
After the hearty refreshment, it goes further upwards to the summit of the majestic Sonnjoch at 2,287 m. On your way via the charming Otto-Leixl-Hütte, you will hike for about 1.5 hours and will be rewarded with a breathtaking summit experience. Imagine it: the wind in your face, feeling freedom, and a breathtaking view. After the rest, you start the return journey via Steinbergalm back to Inneralpbach.
