The Buchensteinwand is the panoramic mountain in the middle of the Pillerseetal. The 30-metre-high Jakobskreuz cross at the summit offers even more spectacular panoramic views and vistas.
The crossing starts at the Tour Rast in Hochfilzen. Via the Tennweg and the direct trail, you ascend to the Hoametzl Hut, which invites you to take your first breather and rest. Continue uphill on a fairly steep climb to the reservoir on the Buchensteinwand plateau. From there, take the Blumenweg trail along the edge of the cliff to the Jakobskreuz. Thirty metres high and fully accessible from the inside via stairs or a lift, four panoramic rooms and plateaus above offer a special panoramic view of the region and the peaks. The Weitblick restaurant on the Buchensteinwand offers refreshments. Refreshed, take the forest road down into the valley towards St. Ulrich am Pillersee. The last few metres lead through the rural hamlet of Flecken to the valley station of the Pillersee mountain railway. From there, take the hiking bus back to the starting point (bus free with guest card).
Alternative: go easy on your knees and take the chairlift down into the valley!
