Description

We start the "High and Holy" pilgrimage trail at the pilgrimage church in Lavant on the Lavanter Kirchbichl. From there, we set off for the St. Peter and Paul's Church and continue to the Kreithof farm along path no. 11. We continue our pilgrimage to the idyllic Tristacher See lake. Still on trail no. 11 (forest nature trail), we hike down to the chapel at Ulrichsbichl and on to the village of Amlach, where we stop briefly at the church of St. Ottilie. In earlier times, Amlach was a popular place of pilgrimage for those suffering from eye problems. We continue up the Drau until we cross the Drau at the Waldschenke inn in the direction of Leisach up to the parish church of St. Michael. Via the Römerweg we reach Burgfrieden, past the Lienzer Klause. The inscription on the memorial stone commemorates the defensive battle of 1809, when the Tyrolean riflemen forced the Napoleonic troops to withdraw from Lienz. We reach the village of Thal via the Römerweg. From here, it is only a short climb to our destination of St. Korbinian on a terrace above the Pustertal valley.
