Motorcycle tour "Three State Tour"
We start in Lienz and proceed to Oberdrauburg, just before the state border for East Tyrol in Carinthia. We bear right here, proceeding via the Drau and head via the Gailberg saddle to Kötschach Mauthen. Continuing in southerly direction via the Plöckenpass to Italy. Via Tolmezzo, Gemona and Tarcento we come to Cividale, the most southerly point of this tour.
The province of Venezia Giulia has its very own charm. On the one hand there is the hustle and bustle on the arterial route, Tolmezzo-Udine, while in the back country area there are little roads which proceed through vineyards and orchards. Here life continues in leisurely fashion and a rest in one of the pubs is almost a must. We now proceed northwards via Azzida and to the Italian-Slovenian border, and pass into ‘no-man’s land’ so to speak. Via Livek and Idrsko we reach the valley of the Soca, the river borders the Triglav National Park in the west and the south west. After around 25 km we reach Bovec. We leave the road which proceeds via the Vrsic pass to Kranjska Gora, bearing right and heading for the Predil saddle, which forms the border with Italy. Slovenia is like a primeval landscape in this region and is hugely impressive.
Via Sella Nevea we get to Chiusaforte, in Canaltal we bear right and come to Pontebba at the foot of the southern ramp to the Naßfeld pass. We leave Italy here and get to Obere Gailtal and Kötschach Mauthen, which we already passed early on in the morning. We can now continue to Oberdrauburg and on to Lienz, where the tour finishes where we started out.
