Description

The hike begins at the Bischoffsplatz car park in Umhausen. From there, follow the wide forest path behind the restaurant Kneipphäusl up to the junction with the “Waalweg Arzwinkel.” The trail meanders gently along the irrigation channels until you reach a gravel road. There, turn right and follow the gurgling Horlachbach upstream to the base of the mighty Stuibenfall — Tyrol’s largest waterfall.

With the fascinating natural spectacle always in view, you ascend on the right side of the cascading waters via roughly 700 steps to the source of the Stuibenfall. Along the way, you pass scenic viewing platforms as well as the 80-meter-long suspension bridge. At the end of the Discovery Trail, you can either return the same way, or follow the old Niederthai road back to Umhausen. Alternatively, you can continue on to Niederthai and return to Umhausen from there by public transport.
