From Vent, the tour leads up to the Martin Busch Hut, over the highest point of the E5 - the Similaun Hut at 3,019m - and then down to Vernagt / South Tyrol (I).
This final stage of the E5 high-altitude trail leads from Vent in the Ötztal to Merano, with 1,000 meters of altitude to overcome right at the start. First, the trail runs from Vent in the Ötztal for about 2.5 hours up to the Martin Busch Hut (2,501 meters), where the best culinary catering awaits the long-distance hikers.
Afterwards the ascent to the Similaunjoch takes place. The Similaun marks the border between North and South Tyrol. At the Similaun hut (3,019 meters) you have reached the highest point of the Alpine crossing. From here it's all downhill to Merano - first descending on foot to the Vernagt reservoir.
From Obervernagt you take the bus to Merano.
