Lechweg Stage 7 | Wängle - Füssen
From Waengle the Lechweg of leads you at first over the High Panorama Trail. From there, a climb leads up to the Costaries chapel. The short climb is worth it – a wonderful panoramic view of the Reutte basin awaits you. Continue towards the small lake, the Frauensee. At 150 meters long and 120 meters wide, the lake appears almost inconspicuous. Right on the Frauensee, you can stop for some refreshment. Then the path leads down to Hinterbichl. You cross the river via the footbridge and walk through the Pflacher Au. It is known for its extraordinary birdlife. The wild river stretches of the Lech River with gravel banks offer teriffic conditions. In the vicinity of the Innovation Center you find the bird-watching tower. An educational trail about birdlife begins here. On this last stretch, you leave the Lech River and walk on forest paths and lanes over the Kniepass to the Sternschanze (starshaped entrenchment). It is as part of the fortification remains of the Castle Worlds Ehrenberg. Here a beautiful view of Oberpinswang can be taken in. Follow in the footsteps of King Ludwig II. Leave the Lechweg at Unterpinswang and stop in at the Gutshof Schluxen. King Ludwig II was a frequent guest here. From the Schluxen, take the Fuerstenstrasse back to the Lechweg. After a stretch on forested roads, the Lechweg leads on wooded paths toward a lake, the Alpsee, and onto Bavarian soil. You walk past the Israelite, an elongated, slightly overhanging rock face. Soon the Alpsee flashes through the leaves of trees. Enjoy the wonderful view of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein Castles shortly thereafter. Follow the Alpsee trail past the Marie Monument. If your legs are tired from walking, on the other bank, the café and restaurant »Alpenrose am See« awaits you. Afterwards, you go above the Swan Lake on the Alpenrosenweg to the Kalvarienberg. Climb the last ascent of the Lechweg. The view makes up for the effort: Over the rooves of Fuessen, the view extends far into the Alpine foothills with its many lakes, or back to the castles and the Tyrol. Now you descend to the Lechfall – the terminal point of the Lechweg Trail.
