Appropriate equipment such as breathable and weather-appropriate outdoor clothing, ankle-high hiking boots, wind, rain and sun protection, hat, possibly gloves, is required for all hikes and routes. It is necessary to carry a first aid kit, a mobile phone and possibly a hiking map, as well as sufficient provisions for hikes without the possibility of stopping at inns.
After Hotel Jenewein turn left, a short section along Gaisbergstraße and across meadows to the entrance of the Gaisberg valley. The path runs close to the Gaisberg stream. Soon you reach the fork in the path; both routes lead to the saddle of Hohe Mut. The shorter and steeper path takes about 1.5 hours, the path via the stamping point of the Gaisberg glacier takes 1 hour longer. The elongated ridge from the mountain station to the Kirchenkogel separates the Rotmoos and Gaisberg valleys. From the Mutsattel you take path 29a descending to Schönwies hut. For the return to Obergurgl, the Zirben forest, passing the Rotmoos waterfall, is recommended.
Travel comfortably and safely to Ötztal train station by train. The final stop or exit point is ÖTZTAL station. Afterwards, you can travel conveniently and quickly by public bus or local taxi companies through the entire valley to your desired destination.
