Description

The starting point for this varied hike is the centre of Matrei i. O. – easily accessible by bus to the Korberplatz stop. From there, the trail leads gently along the Tauernbach stream to the district of Proßegg, where the path winds its way into the wild and romantic Proßeggklamm gorge. In the narrow gorge, the Tauernbach stream reveals its unspoilt, original character: the roaring water, the fresh spray from the Steiner waterfall and the echo between the rock faces create a little natural adventure.

After the gorge, the ascent to the district of Hinteregg begins. Once at the top, an impressive view over the entire valley basin of Matrei i.O. opens up – a moment that invites you to stop and marvel. In the summer months, the Kräuterwirtshaus Strumerhof spoils visitors with homemade specialities – a wonderful place for a gourmet break (note opening hours).

The rest of the route via Zedlach back to Matrei i. O. passes several play and adventure stations, making it ideal for families.
