Today we enjoy glacier views and the magic of alpine huts. The panoramic views are also necessary, as the walk from the Badener Hütte via the Löbbentörl to the Alpengasthof Venedigerhaus alone takes many hours, including the steep descent to Innergschlöss. Long and strenuous or wonderfully challenging with extended hiking pleasure? We know at the Matreier Tauernhaus.
The moderately difficult route on red mountain paths requires good surefootedness, a head for heights and concentration on the partly rope-secured, steep passages over gullies and through small gorges. The steep descent to Innergschlöss also requires a lot of stamina and good walking technique.
Route description: From the Badener Hütte (2,608 meters) you first hike northwards along the Venediger Höhenweg or Adlerweg (here also Badener Weg) for about an hour up to the Löbbentörl (2,770 meters). Some rocky gullies and small gorges are secured by ropes. Climb over a short slope to Löbbentörl, where there is a cross and a memorial plaque in the shelter of a rock. From here on, the trail descends steeply. The north-facing descent with short rope sections leads on rocky grassy ridges and old snow down to the lateral moraine of the Schlatenkees. Descend further on this moraine. At Unterer Keesboden there is a crossing to the Alte Prager Hütte (not open to the public), where you can also branch off to the fascinating "Innergschlöss" glacier show trail.
The Venediger Höhenweg passes the Salzbodensee (2,731 meters), in which the Hoher Zaun and Schwarze Wand are reflected. North of the glacier-white Gschlössbach stream, the trail turns sharply to the east. The well-run Venedigerhaus (1,689 meters), which is close to the glacier, is a good place to take a break. The trail then continues out of the valley along the Gschlössbach stream, between the Inner- and Außergschlöss mountain pastures, where you can pause for a moment at the old rock chapel. A secular stop at the Außergschlöss mountain inn (1,700 meters) is recommended. The valley now widens. From Gschlöss, the route continues gently downhill for about another hour over an altitude difference of less than 200 meters to the Matreier Tauernhaus (1,512 meters), where you will probably arrive a little weak at the knees after the long, demanding descents of this stage. Here you can rest, enjoy fine regional delicacies and spend the night in comfort. For route descriptions, see also: "Osttiroler Wanderbuch" by Walter Mair.
