Steinberg am Rofan / Brandenberg Alps (Rofan)
Difficulty ratings: difficult
Route length: 18.0 km
Duration: 8:00 h

Choose tour stage:

Today, the Adlerweg shows its teeth with a challenging seventh stage, but is not stingy with its impressive scenery. If you like, take a dip in Lake Zirein - ice bathing is supposed to speed up recovery. The Kaiserschmarrn pancakes on the terrace of the Erfurter Hütte with a view of Lake Achensee are also said to have healing effects...

Tour character

This difficult stage on black paths is demanding in terms of fitness and surefootedness. It leads over narrow, steep paths and trails that should not be underestimated, especially in wet conditions. Concentration and good walking technique are essential here.

Description

Route description: From Gasthof Waldhäusl a few meters to the southeast and then immediately take the village road, which branches off to the left of the main road. After a short stretch, turn right towards "Durrahof". Take the largely traffic-free road down into the small valley of the Mühlbach, along the stream and then over the Ache. Then continue gently uphill past the Enterhof farm to the Durrahof farm. From here, follow the signs for "Rofan" and continue along a forest path. Later, follow the signs for "Zireiner See" or "Erfurter Hütte", the route climbs almost imperceptibly through sparse forest and meadows. The path divides after a farm - take the upper route here and do not go downhill. The path immediately turns into a climb. After crossing a stream with a small waterfall, the trail meets a road - turn right here onto the road towards "Bayreuther Hütte". At the next fork in the path, turn left uphill and follow the stream uphill.

Later via a path to a wide forest road. Continue right and then immediately take the road on the left uphill, which quickly becomes a path. Follow the path in the sparse forest along the stream towards "Zireiner See". The stream is crossed (no bridge), the path now climbs more steeply in the forest up to the open alpine pasture area to the idyllic Schauertalalm. Then follow the path up towards the "Schauertalsattel". The now quite stony path, overgrown with roots, runs directly and quickly upwards in this section, often through mountain pines. You reach a basin - here in the direction of "Erfurter Hütte" and south past the Zireiner See lake. Now head towards "Marchalm" and a little later towards "Schafsteig (be careful when wet!), Rofan". The Schafsteig trail runs along the east face of the Rofanspitz and then diagonally upwards before leading through steep terrain to the Schafsteig saddle to the north-east of the Rofanspitze.

From the saddle, descend a short distance to the left in gentle meadow terrain. A little later, follow the signs for "Erfurter Hütte" or "Rofanseilbahn" and follow the path south of the Rofanspitze almost flat over to the yoke. The trail then leads gently down into a green basin. From here, continue leisurely down the alpine pastures to the Erfurter Hütte right next to the mountain station of the Rofan cable car. Shortly before your destination, the route leads past the Mauritzalm. From the Schafsteigsattel, always follow the signs for "Erfurter Hütte" or "Rofanseilbahn". From there, either walk (approx. 1 ½ hours) or take the cable car to Maurach. Almost the entire route runs along the Nordalpenweg 01.

From the Labegg-Graben, turn left up to the Enteralm (refreshment stop, small snack station) - Ameisenkogel (1,518 m) - Labeggalm, this section is a romantic trail (tip: stop off at Anderl's Hütte, 15 minutes' walk away). Continue along the path (do not take path 411) to the Kreuzeinjoch (1,702 meters) - to the Hochleger - up towards Rossweide - Rosskogelsattel (1,868 meters) - under the Rosskogel to Lake Zireiner See. From the Zireiner See continue in the direction of Marchgatterl - to the Zireiner Alm (1,698 meters) - Bayreuther Hütte (1,600 meters, refreshment stop + overnight stay). Continue on trail no. 22 to the Sonnwendbühelalm at 1,645 meters (refreshments available at the weekend) - to the Wiesinger Skihütte - up to the Schermsteinalm and the ruined Schermstein Hochleger - to the Grubascharte and on the existing Adlerweg trail no. 401 to the Erfurter Hütte or the Berggasthof Rofan (refreshments and overnight accommodation available). If you take the detour via the Bayreuther Hütte, you should allow approx. 2 ½ hours more walking time. Advantages: no black paths, accessible in May and June, also in September and October. The path is sunnier and the snow melts faster here.
